My life in the service, the diary of [John L. Morris]. [1942-1943]

Morris's diary begins with his induction into the army on Jan. 12, 1942, at the Presidio of Monterey. From here Morris's company was transported by train to Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, where they underwent basic training. By June 1942 Morris was stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where he remained, working as a radio technician and eventually promoting to the rank of sargeant. He suffered health problems during his tour of duty and was discharged on Sept. 26, 1943.
